We show how Andrews’ classical theory of functional equations for well-poised basic hypergeometric series can be employed to discover overpartition-theoretic analogues of many classical families of partition theorems, including Gordon’s generalization of the Rogers-Ramanujan identities and Andrews’ generalization of the Gollnitz-Gordon identities.
